If you are trying to buy the perfect furniture for your family room, vacation home or cabin, keep futons in mind.  The quality and comfort of today's futons are excellent and they are a great alternative to sofas, day beds, hide aways and loft beds.  You can choose almost any fabric you like as your futon covers so matching your room's décor is quite simple.  What makes today's futons so great is that you can turn any room in your home into that extra bedroom you always seem to need.

Traditionally, futons weren't that comfortable to sit or sleep on.  That has changed significantly in the past few years.  Futon manufacturers have designed mattresses that rival the comfort of regular bed mattresses.  The mattress depth is important depending on how often your futon will be used as a bed.  If it is going to be slept on regularly, we recommend Sealy's Posturepedic or Posture Lux 9 inch mattresses.  These are both excellent quality and design.

For futons that aren't used nightly, an 8 inch mattress will do just fine.  We recommend either the Plush or Sealy Posture Form.  If your futon is used occasionally, you can settle for a 6 inch mattress.  The thicker the mattress, the more expensive they will likely be.  Whatever mattress size you decide on, be sure to buy durable futon covers to protect it.  Material that is machine washable is a great idea especially if you furniture is used a lot.
